  • August 2022: The Nigerian National Petroleum Company announced that the Dangote Refinery is expected to start commercial operations by mid-2023. The refinery project is one of the largest in Africa, with a refining capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.
  • November 2022: Nigeria’s Gasoline Integrated International announced that the company plans to build a USD 68 million refinery on Tongeji Island. The refinery will have an initial refining capacity of 100,000 liters per day and other petroleum products, which will be expanded to 400,000 liters per day.

January 2022: KPTL secured a contract from JSW Utkal Steel Ltd. to install an iron ore slurry pipeline (Spread I) in Odisha Mines. The scope of work includes the laying, testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning a 32" x 131 km slurry pipeline. The project also involves the construction of five Pressure Monitoring Stations and two Intermediate Pigging Stations along the pipeline route.

  • March 2023: Fossil fuel energy companies seeking to extract oil and natural gas from the Gulf of Mexico in U.S. waters received a positive development when they successfully acquired access to 1.6 million acres of available waters through an auction conducted by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), a department within the U.S. government. The auction, known as Lease Sale 259, involved bidding for approximately 13,600 blocks of "outer continental shelf" acreage in the Gulf of Mexico.

The reform was signed in August 2020, which is expected to turn the state oil company Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC) into a private company within six months to make it easier for the struggling company to raise funds for oil exploration and production projects. The new NNPC can now raise funds from the global capital markets and needs to pay taxes and dividends to its shareholders.

The operations for Stena Forth in Egypt are expected to commence in 2023 upon completion of existing contractual commitments.
  • January 2023: ExxonMobil secured exploration rights for two offshore blocks, Masry and Cairo, off the coast of Egypt. These blocks cover an area of more than 11,000 square kilometers and are located in the outer Nile Delta.

· In January 2020, Modec, an FPSO construction company, was awarded the FPSO purchase contract for the final investment decision on the field development of Sangomar oil field, Senegal, West Africa. The company was earlier given the FEED contract for the project, which is currently under construction and is expected to deliver the unit in 2023. The upcoming FPSO unit has a capacity of processing 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day and 130 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.

· In 2021, Santos selected Altera Infrastructure to construct and deliver an FPSO unit for the Dorado oil field development project located offshore Western Australia. The operator Santos also awarded a WHP (well-head platform) contract for the field to Sapura Energy right after the initial contract. The field will produce crude oil from both WHP and FPSO, and the first oil is expected to come within three to four years.
